Everyone will remember this as a dark time But not me History books will talk about viruses, murders, fires, lies But not love, naturally scholars can’t comprehend this mystery What I remember most vividly from this year Is a grey day by the end of summer When your mother and I lay spooning on a hospital bed Waiting for you We arrived early As one does for very important appointments The morning went by peacefully And sometime in the afternoon the outside world dimmed as the spotlight was cast on you We teared up and held hands tightly when it was time I don’t know whether you or mom were in a hurry but you came out fast Push, breathe, push and there you were Screaming for air Full of precious life We left by the following night listening to our music while driving The trees on empty roads watching over us as the family pieces fell into place Everyone will remember this as a dark time But not me, I can’t For you filled our hearts with light May it shine forevermore
